Green Beans with sesame sauce (ingen no goma-ae, 胡麻和え) make a very nice small dish when you need a little something more for dinner. It’s extremely easy and quick to make, but is full of the flavor of sesame seeds.
In Japan, people usually have a Suribachi (mortar) and Surikogi (pestle) at home, but if you don’t have these you could use an electric spice grinder. Or, if you have access to Japanese markets, they likely carry packaged ground sesame seeds, too. However, I recommend to grind the sesame seeds right before making this dish because the aroma of fresh ground sesame seeds is so good. It’s little things like that that make the difference in taste.
And don’t cook green beans too long; you want them to be crisp. I hope you enjoy the fresh flavor of this delicious little dish!
