Tuna and Corn Pizza is a popular type of pizza in Japan. It sounds strange to people outside Japan, but it is quite good, and it is definitely worth trying.
Tuna-Mayo Onigiri is a rice ball with tuna salad filling. That is generally the most popular kind of Onigiri you can buy at convenience stores in Japan. It doesn’t sound like a very Japanese flavor, but it has been loved by the young and old for over 3o years and still keeps going strong.
Spicy Tuna Hand Roll is a Sushi hand roll filled with chopped raw tuna seasoned with hot sauce. It is more of an American-style Sushi than traditional Japanese Sushi, yet it has become one of everyone’s favorites and a staple item on the menu at Japanese restaurants in the US today.
Tekka Don is a rice bowl with marinated tuna Sashimi on top. It is an extremely easy dish to make if you have good Sashimi grade tuna (raw tuna that is sold to be eaten raw). Even though the dish is not complicated, Tekka Don tastes really good and is much more special than typical Donburi (rice bowl) dishes such as Oyakodon.
Sushi Rolls or Hosomaki are a very basic but popular sushi in Japan. Hoso means thin and maki means roll. We want to say “thin” because there are also thick rolls, Futomaki. While Futomaki has a lot of fillings such as cooked vegetables and sweet fish flakes, Hosomaki rolls only have one skinny filling inside. Because of the simplicity of ingredients and cooking technique, Hosomaki is suitable for home cooking as well as restaurant food.
Tuna-jaga is a variation of Nikujaga, but instead of beef and all the usual other vegetables, here it’s just a can of tuna and potatoes in this dish. It is incredibly easy to make but still an excellent side dish for your dinner.
The recipe and photos below show how to make Tuna-jaga. You can also watch our Nikujaga video for more details.
